Matthew 11:28-30 Soul-rest
“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Thank you Jesus for resting my soul. Today Jesus takes the weary and burdened and gives them rest, soul-rest. Compared to the weight of sin and the burden of the law, the grace of Jesus is easy and light. Following him costs everything we have and yet it gives to us from God’s surpassing riches so much more than we ever could give up. We exchange our chains for his yoke. At the cross we lay down our burdens, chains of sin and guilt and self-effort. He breaks the chains and gives us soul-rest.
This morning as I prepare to preach on Easter I pray the Spirit will enable me compose a message that will bring rest to the weary. We’re going to do a song, “The Power of the Cross,” that picture chains falling off. In the resurrection of Jesus we are transformed. An encounter with Him can change everything.

Thank you Bruce for this message!! I really needed to hear exactly that this morning! Human struggles(chains) can be so overwhelming at times!! Thank you for the reminder that my chains are not mine alone and I have only to lay them at the cross. Jesus will take my burdens and give me peace!
I look forward to your Easter message!! I pray that our church is filled and lives are changed forever!! In Him, Aimee
Bruce, I’m enjoying your posts – if I had to pick one favorite Scripture, today’s would be it.
I understand CCBT has gone through some tough times in the last few months; I hope it’s getting back on its feet, and Christ Fellowship is doing well.
Grace and peace,
Brad
