Discover the Joyful Wisdom of Philippians
Sep 05, 2024Romans 11:33, "Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments and his paths beyond tracing out!"
"Wisdom is the quality of discerning what is true, what is ethically right, and what should be done in different situations." [1]
Philippians & What Matters Most
My heart is for you to be on fire for God, grow spiritually, and take your best next step to follow Christ. With you, I want to focus my life on what matters most.
Philippians is one of my favorite books. This short letter is all about Jesus and pursuing him. Paul's theme is for believers in Christ to joyfully unite to advance the gospel. Joy fills the book, which is remarkable when you learn that Paul wrote the book from prison. That's right—Paul was imprisoned in Rome. He wrote this letter chained to a Roman guard, and yet you will hear zero self-pity. His whole focus is on Christ and the Philippians, and he is filled with joy. We can be too, if we follow what he writes in this book.
I encourage you to read the book of Philippians every week for the next 6 weeks. The more familiar you become with Philippians, the more God will grow you. Philippians is 4 chapters, about 2 ½ pages in the average paper Bible. It takes 10–15 minutes to read it. You can do this.
In Philippians, Paul discloses his inner thoughts and deepest desires. Paul's passion for Jesus inspires me. If you pay attention to this short letter, you can see what really matters and how to live a life that makes a difference, united with others.
Paul opens with thanks, 3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy. I too thank God for you, and pray for you with joy. May you be freshly filled with joy today.
Like Paul, let your memories of others spark you to pray for them. For Paul, prayer is essential.
