Pride Month 2024: Grace Without Limits & What It Means for Christians

church and sexuality Jun 27, 2024

Luke 2:40: "And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him."

"Paul derides these so-called sophists and pneumatics for their worldly wisdom (1 Cor 1:19, 20, 22; 2:1, 4), claiming that from God's perspective, their wisdom is foolish and worthless because it is devoid of the gospel. True wisdom—the wisdom of God—is found in the proclamation of the gospel, is empowered by the Spirit (1 Cor 2:4, 5, 13; 12:8; 2 Cor 1:12) and focuses on the cross of Christ (1 Cor 1:17, 21, 30; 3:19). Those who know Christ by faith have the "power" (1 Cor 1:24) and "wisdom" (1 Cor 1:30) in its fullness." [1]

Show Grace Without Limit

Everyone is in favor of grace, but the thought of "no limit" scares some people. We love grace for us but for everyone? No matter what they do?

The gospel shows us God's amazing grace in Jesus Christ. It starts with God's limitless love. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16. The word "world" here refers to the ungodly people. God gave us his one and only Son to die for us so that we would not die eternally.

Further, Jesus Christ came for sinners. Listen to Paul in Romans 3:23-24, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. And then in Romans 5:6-8, we read, "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person, someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." No sinner is too terrible, too ungodly, for Christ's blood. God offers salvation to anyone who will trust in Christ, no matter what they have done. Will we show God's amazing grace to all others without limit?

A mom came to me about her daughter, who came out as lesbian. She said "I know I need to love my daughter, but what are the limits?" I said, "None. Love her unconditionally, with no limits; lavish her with love. Show her the unlimited, amazing grace that God shows us. I understand appropriate boundaries exist, but we should not limit our love. The Father and Jesus don't limit their love."
