Trusting the God Who is Bigger Than All Chaos

Nov 28, 2024

Colossians 3:16: “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”

Christian wisdom is cruciform—the eschatological mystery of Christ revealed by the Spirit; the Christ fulfills the Torah as the embodiment of wisdom, while the Spirit fulfills the Torah as the enablement for wisdom.” [1]

Read Daniel 2:46-49

Picture the Jewish young man, Daniel, who was taken captive, standing in the royal court of the most powerful man on earth. King Nebuchadnezzar fell before Daniel. Then he made an amazing declaration: “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries” (Daniel 2:47). He learned that God is bigger than all the chaos because He is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and the revealer of mysteries. His advisors apparently did not get it. We hear nothing from them. But Nebuchadnezzar realized that God is bigger than scary nightmares, impotent religions, and manipulative advisors. We can trust God because He is bigger than our chaos.

In a chaotic world, will you trust the God who is bigger than all your chaos? Will you turn from trusting in power, religion, or anything else to trusting in God alone? We find peace and confidence when we give up our empires and advisors for the true Big God. Jesus said, “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3).

If you have never done so, I invite you to repent, believe, and be baptized as Peter did at Pentecost. Baptism is a great statement to your family and friends of your choice to believe in Jesus. Just as Nebuchadnezzar symbolized his faith by bringing incense and offerings, baptism is a way of physically expressing the choice in your heart to trust in Jesus Christ as the true King of Kings.

Trust God because He is bigger than our chaos since He is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and the revealer of mysteries.
